Community participation

Your local knowledge can help guide the next 20 years.

Throughout the project, there will be different opportunities for the public to participate in and contribute to the MDP update. This page will be updated regularly with upcoming engagement opportunities and materials.

Information shared by participants through engagement activities will be reported anonymously. Personal information collected will be kept confidential and will not be shared.

Apply for the Community Workshop Series

We are inviting residents, landowners, business owners, agricultural producers, community organizations, environmental and recreation interests, and other interested parties to apply to participate in the Community Workshop Series.

The workshops will provide an opportunity to share local knowledge, experiences and perspectives and discuss important issues and opportunities facing Foothills County.

Interested in participating?

What is the commitment?

Participants will have the opportunity to participate in a three-phase workshop series that will help shape the future of Foothills County through the Municipal Development Plan update. The workshops will take place throughout the project, from Fall 2026 to Fall 2027, allowing participants to contribute at key milestones along the way.

Phase 1 (November 2026): Participants can choose one of the following workshop sessions:

  • Monday, November 24 (Afternoon)
  • Monday, November 24 (Evening)
  • Wednesday, November 26 (Afternoon)

Following Phase 1, participants will be invited to take part in two additional workshop phases later in the project. Each workshop will build on previous conversations, giving participants the opportunity to explore ideas, share their perspectives, and help refine recommendations as the plan takes shape.

Total commitment: One workshop in Phase 1 and one workshop in each of the two future phases, for a total of three workshops over the course of the project.

Why participate?

This is your opportunity to:

  • Help define a long-term vision for Foothills County
  • Discuss growth, housing, agriculture, business development, transportation, environmental stewardship, and rural character
  • Bring forward local knowledge and community priorities
  • Ensure future policies reflect the values of residents and landowners
  • Provide input that will help inform the updated Municipal Development Plan
